Apologist Ergun Caner tells BCF audience to pursue evangelism whatever the cost
GRACEVILLE (BCF)—Christian apologist Ergun Caner told Baptist College of Florida faculty, students and friends Nov. 28 to continue sharing the Gospel whatever the cost. The president of Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Va., spoke in the R.G. Lee Chapel during the Graceville college’s senior honors day for the class which graduated Dec. 7.
Caner, a former Muslim, was born in Sweden to a Turkish family who immigrated to the U.S. in 1984. He served churches in Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Colorado and Texas before beginning his tenure at the Lynchburg institution in 2003. Citing the meeting, recorded in John 4, of Jesus and the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, Caner said every person, regardless of their differences, needs the “living water” that Jesus provides.
“Go to the lost,” he said. “Some are gong to mock you, who cares?” he said. “Let them move you, take your church. It’s about the living water that you can offer them through Jesus Christ. Meet them at the well!”
BCF President Thomas Kinchen and Senior Vice-President R.C. Hammack presented honor stoles to graduates with grade points of 3.25 and higher, and top graduates in each degree program received certificates.
In turn, the senior class presented Kinchen a paint brush representing the class’ work in painting a college dormitory during recent improvements to the campus.
BCF alumni Jerry Webb and his band led the congregation in worship, and senior Marquita Battles sang a solo. A reception awaited the seniors in the Assembly Center.
